Equipment I Use And Recommend

I’m always being asked what camera I use or what is my favorite lens to shoot landscapes. I only recommend the products that I use and love to have in my arsenal of gear. All the items below have been tested by yours truly along with million of other users and rest assure - it’s good gear. Below are affiliate links to most of my gear that I’m currently using. Cameras:

Canon 6D Mark II with some goodies thrown in along with the camera at no additional cost. Full frame sensor and articulated screen makes this a great camera for not only taking pictures but also for video.

Canon 5DS R super high resolution full sensor camera with outstanding build quality and reliability. Use this camera when wanting to print very large images or fine detail in your capture.

Lenses:

Canon 70-200 f4L IS USM Telephoto Lens every serious photographer needs this focal length. Impressive build and excellent optics makes this a necessary lens when you need reach and fine detail in your images.

Canon 16-35mm f2.8L II USM Ultra-Wide Zoom Lens this is a must if you’re doing landscape work or travel photography. Sharp, almost no distortion and super fast lens that I use in almost all my shoots.

Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art Series Lens for Canon Full Frame Bodies Fast lens with excellent optics and build quality. If you can only have one lens, this one should be it.

Sigma 35mm 1.4 DG HSM Art Series Lens Solid fast lens that’s perfect for street photography or general landscape work. Also a wonderful lens for night sky photography.

Flash:

Canon 580EX II Flash for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras not used a lot in landscape work but always a good idea to own in case you’re shooting events, people or interiors.

Canon Speedlight Transmitter ST-E3-RT this small but powerful transmitter will connect to your camera and send the firing signal to your flash. Great to use for off-camera flash work which is best when shooting portraits.

Filters:

Breakthrough Photography Filter Holder and Adapter Ring the ring attaches to your lens and then the holder attaches to the ring. Once in place, this holder will hold your various filters in front of the lens.

Breakthrough Photography 3-stop Neutral Density Square Filter - hard to find at the moment.

Breakthrough Photography 10-stop Neutral Density Square Filter - hard to find at the moment.

Breakthrough Photography 3-stop Graduated (soft) Neutral Density Filter this is a great quality glass filter and ideal for blocking 3 stops of lights in half of your scene.

Lee Filters 2-stop Graduated (hard) Neutral Density Filter similar to the filter above but only diminishes 2 stops of light from half of your scene.

Breakthrough Photography X4 Circular Polarizer Filter (82mm size) get this circular polarizer to tone down reflections while augmenting the color saturation of your images. This is one of the best polarizer made. Due to the cost of this filter, get the larger one (82mm) and use step down rings so that it will fit your smaller as well as larger diameter lenses.

Camera Cases:

Tripods:

Really Right Stuff TVC-34Carbon Fiber Tripod used for heavy duty support or when height is needed. This tripod is not for the beginner but for the serious photographer who needs and wants the best carbon fiber tripod out there.

Really Right Stuff BH-55 Ball Head this ball head is simply one of the best made. Heavy and expensive but worth every penny.

Sirui W-1204 Carbon Fiber Tripod used most often because of its light weight and durability. One of the best quality and affordable carbon fiber tripod in the market

Various Other Accessories:

LED Flashlight necessary when working at night or returning to camp in pitch darkness. Enough lumens to illuminate your way back safely.

Rubber boots landscape photographers need these unless you enjoy standing in murky dark water for a long time.

Vallerret Markhof Pro 2.0 Winter Photography Gloves these gloves are specifically designed for photographers allowing you to work comfortably in cold weather while allowing your fingers to make camera settings a breeze.

Microfiber Cleaning Cloths typical cleaning cloths are too small to bother with. These are large and lint-free making cleaning all your gear (particularly lenses) easy and convenient.

Garmin InReach Minii Satellite Communicator just nice to have in the event of an emergency when working in the field and away from civilization.

SanDisk 128GB Extreme SD Card your cameras will need these so might as well go for excellent reliability at a great price.

SanDisk Extreme PRO 64GB Compact Flash Memory Card used as a backup storage by some cameras.
